Religious prejudice

Part of our ongoing conversations is about what we discover on this journey outside of the walls of institutional Christianity.  One such discovery is how much religious prejudice accompanied our perspective of others in the world. 

Charlotte

David returns from his visit to the gathering in Charlotte, NC, and shares about his experience there where folks from around the U.S. and 8 different countries were sharing about what is happening globally with folks leaving the Institutional Church.

Doctrine

David returns from his visit in Oregon where he had an opportunity to meet with some seasoned believers that were outside of the IC box. One of the topics that came up was the new role and perspective regarding doctrine.

Community

David and a few of the Family Room folks were pleasantly surprised by a visit from some people that knew about David’s book while they were gathering outside of a bagel shop. This sparked our conversation about community and what it looks like outside of the IC.

No Man’s Land

David makes an observation from a blog that he read about how today’s youth are in a ‘No Man’s Land’.  There’s often such a disconnect between youth and the IC culture.  Are they allowed to grow in their own relationship with Father, or are they being kept from spiritual maturity? 

God’s Provision

Bruce Backman joins us again in our conversation about today’s economic times, and how our perspectives of God’s provision are going through a real overhaul. Outside of the IC influence, how are folks discovering a deeper sense of their relationship with Father?

Significant

Ever been pigeonholed in your relationship with Father by the constraints of the IC?  How often were we reduced into feeling insignificant in Father’s kingdom when the esteemed minister showed up? This discussion pounces on a few of these points and others that have robbed us of the significance of our relationship with Father.

The Process

We discuss a passage from Oswald Chambers’ book ‘My Utmost For His Highest’ that focuses on the fact that God does not look at results as the goal. But that the process is the goal as God sees it.

Institutional Seeds

Often it seems that folks set off on a journey away from the ponderous institutional church and yet carry the seeds of the IC method with them as they try to start a new work, or ministry,, or gathering.  Yet those seeds of the institutional structure soon begin to grow, and before long start becoming very demanding.

Displaying Christ

The freedom we have in our relationship with Father allows us to freely display Christ to everyone we come in contact with.  Without religious obligations, how does this revelation transform our perspective of everyday life?
